Economic activity
During centuries, Hermalle-sous-Huy, situated in a fertile plain,
lived agriculture mainly (notably production of sugar beet at
the 19th and 20th centuries) and of livestock farming (cattle
and horses), to which was added the industry.
In the second half of the 2nd century and in the beginning of
the 3rd, one finds an establishment of tilemakers there - as
attest it the excavations led from 1974 to 1976 in the Gerée
country where were exhumed tiles carrying the NEHS, QVAS and
GFPS marks.
At the 16th century, some villagers work in the mines of lead
and alum of the left bank.
Since the 18th century, Hermalle-sous-Huy knows an important
industrial activity by the extraction of the limestone. The exploitation
of the surrounding subsoil continues again today by the SA Dumont-Wautier
(Lhoist group).
The manufacture of zinc to the 20th century, the brickyard in
the first half of the this century constitute other industrial
poles.
The decline of the agricultural activity, freeing some soil,
permits the creation of an industrial activity park at the end
of the 20th century (www.spi.be).
One finds some warehouses there, firms treating the lime, the
raw materials of career, the concrete or the paintings, sawmill
and joineries, an wrought ironwork, a warehouse of brewery...
The recent harbor of Hermalle-sous-Huy, covering 50 are on a
bank length of 192 m, have 2 embankments of unloading and 2 storage
concrete foundation slabs.

It goes without saying that
these enterprises provide work to the population of Hermalle-sous-Huy,
in the same way besides, that the Prayon group situated rightly
downstream in the entity of Engis, universally known for its
production and its merchandising of phosphate and fluoride products
- for industrial and food applications and that take also place
